Systems that Enhance the Buyer's Journey: Wednesday March 02, 2022 - 11:00 AM - 12:15 AM (Regency Hall 1-2)

Effective systems and automations are essential to managing your painting company's professional branding and successfully scaling your business. In this presentation we take a deep dive into better understanding your ideal prospect's needs, and how your company can make the "buyer's journey" an amazing one. We also discuss how systems can save your painting company's reputation from being tarnished when things go wrong, and the safety measures that must be in place to ensure your brand stays protected.

Brandon Pierpont is the Founder and Owner of Painter Marketing Pros. Brandon is passionate about helping owners of quality painting companies get their internet marketing right, so they can scale their businesses and ultimately achieve true personal and financial freedom while creating a legacy they can be proud of. Prior to founding Painter Marketing Pros, Brandon ran a successful digital marketing agency that worked primarily with home service companies. He initially learned how to successfully market service businesses online and the importance of doing so through creating, growing, and ultimately selling his auto detailing business, Rich Detail. In his off days he can be found spending time with his wife and two little boys. Probably the weirdest thing about Brandon is that he is an ardent practitioner of the Wim Hof method. Not sure what that is? Ask him!

Financial Growth to Success: Wednesday March 02, 2022 - 1:45 PM - 3:00 PM (Regency Hall 7-9)

Financial Growth & Job Costing is all about organizing and analyzing your finances so you can understand your company's financial health. We go over how to job cost your projects, analyze your monthly cashflow, understand receivables and payables, and most importantly, use the financial information to plan for the company's future growth.

Chris Moore is the founder of Elite Business Advisors. After spending over a decade in the painting industry himself, he is now focusing full time on helping other painting contractors grow their businesses. Chris came into the industry at age 19 through a non-traditional perspective of learning how to run a business first and then working on the art & science of the painting projects themselves. This helped him always stay focused on finding better ways to grow the business, increase the efficiency of projects, and improve the customer experience all while providing a quality paint job to his customers. He started Elite Business Advisors after realizing that his passion was more in entrepreneurship and helping other business owners succeed instead of painting itself.

How to Attract and Retain Viciously Loyal and Productive Employees: Wednesday March 02, 2022 - 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM (Grand Cypress C)

Come hang out with Brandon Vaughn, as he shares the secrets and strategies he used to scaled his service business from 0 to $500,000/mo in only 6 seasons.

Leave with a 12 week execution workbook to gear up for the hiring season, and never be short handed again.

For decades, Brandon Vaughn witnessed his own father’s drive and dedication owning/operating a small service-based business. For 33 years, his father ran his small business as a single employee. In 2011, his father was diagnosed with a serious illness that prevented him from performing the physical tasks required to keep his operations running. Brandon purchased the business with a promise to keep it running in order to support his parents. In under 6 seasons, Brandon grew the business from zero to over 70 employees, increasing revenues from $8k/mo to over $450k/mo. In 2017, he was awarded the S.B.A Small Business Person of the Year award for the state of Oregon. Brandon started his newest service business, featured in his MAP to a Million YouTube Series, in the painting industry and grew it from $0 to $100k/mo in 4 months. His painting business has gone from 0 to 8 locations in 12 months.

Today, Brandon helps thousands of small business owners systemize and scale their companies through his company Automate Grow Sell, which provides personalized mentorship and training programs for small business owners. Facilitated by CEOs and executives with real-world experience in small business growth, their Conquer program yielded an average of 77% year-over-year growth for participants in 2018 -- a level of success that Brandon and the Conquer team will continue to inspire for years to come.

The 5M+ Blueprint: Wednesday March 02, 2022 - 1:45 PM - 3:00 PM (Regency Hall 3-4)

Do you want to grow into a one- to five-million-dollar residential painting company? This session will cover the organizational chart, systems, and structures for a painting business with a revenue range of $1 to $5 million. Including how to keep a 20% net profit while working 40 hours per week. You'll leave this class with your own organizational chart and business plan for 2022 and beyond.

Garrett Martell started in the painting industry in 2012 with College Pro Painters. In 2014, after earning his Master's degree in Marketing and Management, he started Two Day Painting in Milwaukee WI. Since then the business has rapidly grown to one of the largest residential painting businesses in the US, grossing close to $6,000,000 in 2021. Garrett's expertise involves strong marketing, sales, and business systems. This has allowed him to work himself out of the business, now just overseeing marketing, financials, strategy, and coaching of the management and sales team.

In 2019, Garrett started Tradesfix. Two Day Painting has been using direct mail to drive the majority of their sales, and have done so at an average of 25x ROI over the years. Many painters have asked for his help with their mail campaigns, so he started up Tradesfix to help them out. Now he works with several painters and other trades businesses, running their direct mail campaigns and also doing marketing and sales consulting. The goal with his direct mail is to target homeowners at a higher level, for around the same costs as saturation type efforts like EDDM, while avoiding renters and low household value homes. He does this through printing in bulk, negotiated rates with vendors, and understanding all of the USPS programs and permits to keep the price low, and ROI high. From acquiring the list, designing the piece, managing the printing and mailing, and analyzing past results, it is truly a one stop shop for direct mail marketing.

In 2021, Garrett started Exterior Painting Pros in Charleston, SC . He did this to help several of his painters keep busy over the winter months. In Wisconsin, it is difficult to paint exteriors from November-March, and he can only keep around 1/3 of his painters busy full time. Now, the others have an option to travel to SC, have rent and travel expenses paid for, and stay busy over the winter.

How to Hire in A Talent Shortage: Wednesday March 02, 2022 - 1:45 PM - 3:00 PM (Regency Hall 7-9)

Recruiting is the biggest challenge facing the industry and everybody is talking about the ‘non-
existent labor pool’... we’ve heard all the complaints!

Finding the ideal candidate is more challenging than ever, and keeping hold of them, that's a
whole other ballgame.

There are always ‘A’ players looking for great opportunities; but they are looking for clues that you are an ‘A’ Player company as well. Winners want to work with winners. Chances are that you’ve
got a lot of positive traits you aren’t leveraging to attract the great talent that’s still out there.

The good news is that most of your competition will have brutal recruitment processes so it’s
easy to make yourself stand out as a top employer.

In this talk, Benji Carlson takes you through the key steps to find, filter, and hire the perfect team
members.

By the end of this talk, you’ll walk away with:

  • A proven system to attract top talent.
  • A screening process that will reduce time, and the questions that will get you there.
  • A better understanding of how to recognize the right fit.
  • A clear and professional recruitment process

BONUS: You’ll get ready-built templates and systems to dial in your recruitment, in time for 2022!

When Benji was just a teen, he exhibited his parents’ flair for entrepreneurship by founding a profitable small business. Later on, he built a highly successful franchise with College Pro Painters, earning accolades for having the most productive staff in the franchise network (and generating over $1-million in revenue). His ability to find the right people and put them in the right place made him a natural for the Assessment team at Breakthrough Academy, which he joined in 2017.

As an Assessment Specialist (as well as co-host of the Contractor Evolution podcast), Benji has demonstrated a talent for distilling vast amounts of information to address the root of the problem so that contractors can work on their business instead of just in it. Consequently, he has assessed more than 1,000 trades companies and helped them get on the path to scaling.

When Benji isn’t working his magic at BTA, he’s at home in Kelowna, B.C., bombing down trails on his mountain bike or tearing up the asphalt on his motorcycle.
...

Hear Benji’s talk, “How To Hire In A Talent Shortage” @ Expo on March 2; you'll learn some things you can put into action... trust us.
...

Breakthrough Academy (BTA) works with over 400 contractors across North America, helping them systemize to scale. Currently managing over $1.2 billion worth of revenue, BTA was rated Canada’s 213th fastest growing company by The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business in 2021; a hat trick year for the brand with three-peat showing on the list.

Residential Forum: Failing Forward, Learning Fast: Wednesday March 02, 2022 - 3:45 PM - 5:00 PM (Grand Cypress A, B)

Contractors share some of their biggest failures, as well as how those failures taught them a valuable lesson that led to their ultimate success.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida during a hurricane and raised in Minnesota listening to tornado sirens I made a conscious decision to avoid weather stress by moving to San Diego with my husband in 2018. (Insert the earthquake jokes here.) We had raised our family and sold our painting business. Over the years we had shepherd hundreds of painters from helper to expert level skills with our in-house training center and skill advancement systems. Nothing was more satisfying than seeing the journey come full circle when we sold the business to a former employee.

At midlife I returned to school to pursue degrees in organizational leadership and peace and justice studies. As a learner by nature, I love to train others and have designed curriculum and workshops both online and in person for a range of audiences from small business owners to peace advocates. The opportunity to work with PCA and bring education to painters and business owners is exciting, challenging and most of all—feels like coming home.

Mindset Is Everything: Friday March 04, 2022 - 8:30 AM - 9:45 AM (Regency Hall 1-2)

During this presentation participants will learn:

1.) Never stop learning. Always be growth-oriented and forward-focused.

2.) Your association is your most powerful asset

3.) No matter the circumstance, you have a choice.

Corrie Leister is owner, artist and entrepreneur at Inspired By U. Currently, Corrie runs a cabinet refinishing business that works three to four kitchens every 10 days, she has a coating line that provides industrial coatings to the DIY market, she brings in some of the top refinishers in the industry and runs classes for professionals, and runs the Kitchen Cabinet Painting Experts and Cabinet Refinishers Network FaceBook groups. But, it did not start out this way.

Searching for passion and purpose, Corrie started her refinishing business in 2015. She had always loved to paint and with just a paint brush and a dream, she started a small business from the confines of her garage. From the beginning, Corrie understood the power of association so she quickly began to search for a community of painters with fruit on the tree who would be willing to share. The process eventually led her to start the Kitchen Cabinet Painting Experts FaceBook Group. The idea behind the group was to create a community where people could ask questions and get advice directly from the experts in the industry. As the group grew, so did her knowledge and she was like a sponge taking everything in. She hand selected the moderators in the group who had a heart to elevate the industry and share knowledge, and the family of moderators has helped to grow the group to almost 80,000 members. She credits these professionals to her rapid personal growth and works daily to pay it forward and add value to others the way it's been added to her.

The business has since outgrown the small garage she started in, and they have been blessed with a beautiful space to work out of. The company has grown from Corrie working on her own to a team of seven employees and they've created a great culture of excellence together. Every year her business has almost doubled and she looks forward to seeing what is in store for the future.

A Million Dollars in Revenue from Instagram: Friday March 04, 2022 - 10:30 AM - 11:45 AM (Regency Hall 3-4)

A step by step guide to building a social media presence and leveraging it into revenue.

1.) Find your message

2.) Create your content

3.) Drive revenue

Owner of ZK Painting & ZK Finishing School

Zach started his painting career with a love for the craft and a distain for marketing. For years Zach was producing high quality finishes but was not getting the success he wanted.

To help offset expenses, Zach shared an office space with a friend. They eventually decided to start a social media marketing company together. The marketing company took off and Zach eventually became a seasoned social media guru.

While his social media marketing company was thriving, his painting company was not. Although, this was not because of his lack of craftsmanship or work ethic. It had more to do with his ideal clients being unaware that he existed or these gorgeous finishes Zach was producing were attainable.

Eventually, out of desperation, he turned to Instagram. After helping so many other brands build their social media pages, he was able to crack the code of Instagram for his painting business. He quickly realized the power Instagram holds and will share the greatness with anyone who will sit and listen to him today.
