Support Team | Sydnie Russian
I’m originally from a small town in south-central Missouri, but have traveled all over the world. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Russian Language and Culture from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. In Kirksville, I was a DJ, volunteered at a skate rink, and bartended at the notorious Dukum Inn, where I have too many stories (that I can’t remember!) I studied abroad in Moscow, Russia in 2017 and got to traipse through palaces and eat my way through a harsh Russian winter.
After graduating, my next adventure was a Peace Corps Volunteer in North Macedonia from September of 2018 until I was evacuated in March of 2020 due to COVID-19. In Macedonia, I learned two languages (Macedonian and Albanian) at the same time and taught English to a small Albanian village school and traveled to 9 new countries. I gained two amazing host families, a ginormous puppy, countless friends and inspiring students, and experienced new cultures through fun and food (and lots of head nodding and smiling).
Since being evacuated, I joined the PCA team and have enjoyed the extra time with my family back in Missouri. I hope to join a local roller derby team this fall and start remembering how to speak Russian.
